Wound filter cartridges are highly effective at removing large amounts of sediment, such as rust or dirt, from liquids. These filter cartridges are designed with layers of cotton or polypropylene string spun around a center core to form a depth filter with excellent sediment holding capacity. Our selection of filter wound cartridges is compatible with most filtration housings on the market, including Rosedale’s HSS Series, our Multi-Cartridge Housings, and Rosedale Models 4, 6, and 8.
Use the drop downs below to narrow your selection based on material, length, micron rating, and box quantity. Our 20”, 30”, and 40” models come in cases of 15, and 10” models come in cases of 30. Contact us for more information regarding our line of string wound filter cartridges.

String Wound Sediment Filters: How Do They Work?

String wound filter cartridges have multiple layers of string wound tightly around a support core in diamond shaped patterns to prevent breakage of short fibers. As liquid passes through the cartridge, the woven layers of string on the outer diameter filter out bigger sediment particles (those greater than or equal to the micron rating). Smaller particles (those less than the micron rating) are then filtered out by the layers near the polypropylene core at the center of the cartridge. uid.

Benefits of String Wound Cartridges for Your Filtering Application

Rosedale string wound filter cartridges are made with a highly innovative single core design to eliminate the “joints” common in other manufacturers’ elements at 10” intervals. Compared to standard elements, wound filter cartridges offer several added benefits, such as:
  • True depth filtration
  • Higher efficiency
  • Extended service life
  • Lower pressure drop
  • Greater solids holding capacity

Polypropylene Wound Filters vs Cotton Wound Filters

Polypropylene String Wound Filter Cartridges

Wound filters made from FDA approved polypropylene material are used in a range of food, beverage, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and portable water applications. PP string wound filters can also support a broad pH range, making them a good choice for filtering acid or caustic organic chemicals. Compatible with temperatures up to 180°F (82°C).

Natural Cotton String Wound Filter Cartridges

Wound filters made from natural cotton are used for oils, paints, organic solvents, alcohols, petroleum, and some waste water systems. Cotton string wound filters can also be used for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and limited chemical applications. Compatible with temperatures up to 250°F (121°C).
